U.S. Ambassador makes pilgrimage to the tomb of Gus Dur

The U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Scot Marciel, is scheduled to visit East Java for two days on 24-25 January.

"On January 24 morning, Ambassador Marciel will visit the tomb of Gus Dur in Jombang to pay homage to the Indonesia's pluralism figure," said the Human Resources staff of the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, Aji Wihardandi on Sunday.

Aji said tha Marciel would also visit a senior high school in Bangkalan on January 25 morning and deliver a speech before all components of the Trunojoyo University of Bangkalan in the afternoon.

"The visit is the implementation of a comprehensive partnership on education which was signed by U.S. President (Barack) Obama and Indonesian President (Susilo Bambang) Yudhoyono in 2010," he said.

Formerly the government officials also made a pilgrimate to the tomb of Gus Dur, such as Minister of State Owned Enterrpise Dahlan Iskan. (mkf)
