Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi met leaders of several Islamic organizations on Thursday to discuss the beleaguered GKI Yasmin church congregation.

Ministry spokesman Reydonnyzar Moenek said that the meeting was an attempt by Gamawan to solve problem.

“The minister hope they can come up with the best solution for the problem,” Reydonnyzar said as quoted by kompas.com.

Prominent Islamic leaders attended the meeting, including Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) leader KH Mahyiddin Junaidi, Slamet Efendi Yusuf, Ma’ruf Amin and KH. Amidhan, as well as Muhammadiyah’s Arif Wibisono.

Representatives from the Bogor administration also attended.

The administration, citing permit application problems, has barred the congregation from conducting religious services in the church for more than two years, defying a 2010 Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing the congregation's right to hold services at the church. (jp/adar)
