Ali Masykur Musa leads ISNU

Ali Masykur Musa was eventually named chairman of the Nadlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU) at its first congress held in the Darul Ulum Islamic University (UNISDA) Lamongan district, East Java on Saturday.

Musa is the first man leading the NU autonomous body which was newly decided the the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization in its 32nd Congress in Makasar in 2010.

Musa said that he called on ISNU to immediately revive the glory of Nahdliyin (NU followers) in particular and Islam in general, especially in dealing with any problem facing the nation.

"Today our nation has been torn apart by a set of circumstances which are in need of solution," he said, adding that the nation "has had a long-standing need for leaders having integrity.

He asserted a leader could not decide for himself without the strength of organization.

"Similarly, there is no superiority if the leadership is just for itself. Leaders must devote themselves to the interests of the nation, "he said.

The member of the State Audit Agency (BPK) also called on all members of ISNU to work together in developing the scholars organization.

"By saying Bismillah, let us make ISNU great," he said. (dib)
