AGH Sanusi Baco receives Doctor Honoris Causa

Chairman of the Advisory Board of Nahdlatul Ulama AGH M. Sanusi Baco was Thursday (20/12) awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa degree at the Senate Extraordinary Session of the Alauddin State Islamic University (UIN) Makassar, South Sulawesi. He was awarded the degree for his contribution to the Islamic law.<>

Present at the occasion were, among others, Makassar's NU prominent figure Dr H M. Jusuf Kalla, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. KH Nasaruddin Umar, South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo and South Sulawesi Deputy Governor Agus Arifin Nu'mang.

Promoter and Co Promoter Prof. Dr. H. Minjahuddin MA and Prof. Dr. H. Abubakar Achmad M.Ag. said AGH Sanusi Baco was a charismatic cleric who has from the beginning grown and flourished in the pesantren tradition.

"He has sought to develop Islamic jurisprudence studies especially Schools of thought. As a lecturer at the Faculty of Sharia at the Alauddin State Islamic University, he taught principles of Islamic jurisprudence (usul fiqh) and comparative jurisprudence studies when the promovendus become Chairman of the Department of the Faculty of Sharia between 1977-1983, "said Minhajudin.

He said that AGH Sanusi Baco had always obliged his students before having final tests to read one of the reference books such as Kitabul Fiqh 'ala Habbul Arba'ah (Shafi'i school), Bidayatul Mujtahid (Maliki School), Hanbali fiqh books and Fiqh Al Islamiyah Wa Adillatuhu (Hanafi school)," he continued.
