The National Awakening Party (PKB) is seeking qualified members to be nominated as its legislative candidates in an attempt to win votes in the 2014 general election.<>
“We aim to nominate our most-able members, so we can win votes,” the party’s election head, Syaifullah Maksum, told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/8).
For that reason, the PKB is organizing a competency test for its members.
According to Syaifullah, his party was serious about participating in an effort to more meaningful democracy in the country. “This is our contribution toward improving democracy. We will start with selecting the best members in our party with a well-prepared recruitment process,” he said as quoted by Antara.
He emphasized that this would help combat public criticism over the disappointing quality of legislators, both at national and regional levels.
PKB secretary-general Imam Nahrawi said the competency test would help to find qualified legislative candidates to represent the people. “After selecting the best members, we will introduce them to the people so that voters will know who to vote for in the election,” he added.
