The grandson of the NU founding father KH Sholahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah) called on the Jombang's NU Branch Board to have the courage to criticize the regent if his policy is inconsistent with the people.<>

"NU should have the courage to criticize the regent, I do believe NU is good, but how the goodness in this organization could make a corrupt (official) into a good one," he said on the sidelines of a NU youth forum at Tebuireng Islamic boarding school Jombang on Wednesday (11/7).

"We want a good person to become a regent, could NU individual be a regent? I think he /she could be (promoted)," he said, adding the emerging problem was there would be difficulties in promoting the NU individual to become a regent. "Let us formulate this problem together."

The former chairman of NU also appreciated the attitude of PCNU in any democracy events especially in the presidential election in which he was named as the running mate of Wiranto in the 2004 presidential elections. In the time he remained serving as chairman of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization.

"In the future how the measures taken by NU are not opposed to the NU Khittah (principles)," he said.

In the meantime, KH Qoyyum, the leader of Pesantren An Nur Lasem, Rembang, said NU should be able to benefit NU (followers) in particular and others in general. As taught by KH Hasyim Ash'ari as the founder of NU. His expertise in the field of Hadith felt not only by NU.

"Even the Muhammadiyah ulama and figures in Yogyakarta have still studied the Hadist written by mbah Hasyim."

Kiai Qoyyum also criticized NU clerics for often asking for help to government officials, including regents.
